I.P.P.S MENTORING PROGRAM AT A GLANCE
Here at I.P.P.S Mentoring Program, we know that sometimes all it takes to change the world is a little support. Since our founding in 2005, we have been determined to make an impact in prison reform. We are currently focused on mentoring and training men at Eastern Correctional Institute in Westover, MD to better prepare them as returning citizens. The core of our efforts is to strengthen our communities, increase job hiring, and to lower inmate recidivism rates in Maryland.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT, EDUCATIONAL DIRECTION, REDUCING RECIDIVSM
Improving our community, one man at a time
MAN TO MAN MENTORING
There are some lessons and dashes of wisdom that only a man can impart to another man. Men view and interact with the world differently. It is imperative that our mentees seek out other men for guidance on how to navigate life, especially when they are released back into society. Mentors can help our inmates see things in a different way, inspire them, comfort them when they grieve, and help them to become a better man, husband, father, and friend. Newly recruited mentors will be properly trained by an I.P.P.S board director prior to meeting their mentee(s). If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please contact us!
ACTIVE PARENT TRAINING
At I.P.P.S Mentoring Program, we are dedicated to stepping up our efforts in addressing this issue. As simply put, children NEED their fathers, as much as they need their mothers. The Nurturing Fathers Program is an evidence-based, 13 week training course designed to teach parenting and nurturing skills to our inmates. Each class provides proven and effective skills for healthy family relationships and child development. If you are interested assisting our inmates in Active Parent Training, please contact us!
With our organization’s mission always in mind, we strive to find new strategies for dealing with this challenge. Implementing Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University, we teach our mentees the importance of becoming financially stable and responsible with money. This nine lesson course teaches our inmates how to budget, pay off debt, save money, and give generously. If you are interested in assisting with Financial Training, please contact us!
WASTEWATER TRAINING PROGRAM
At I.P.P.S Mentoring Program, we are dedicated to stepping up our efforts in implementing this new pilot program for our inmates. I.P.P.S in collaboration with the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services and Maryland Environmental Services are working together in efforts to establish this program. Wastewater Training is by no means an easy feat, but through cooperation and community empowerment we believe we can facilitate progress in this area. This incredible opportunity will allow our inmates to achieve the work experience, job skills, and high possibility of getting hired immediately after they are released from ECI. We are excited to announce that in October 2019, I.P.P.S received a grant from one of our top supporters, the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, to implement the wastewater training program at ECI in 2020. We are always striving to make a difference, and invite you to learn more and lend your support. If you are interested in assisting with this new pilot program, please contact us!
"Studies have shown that inmate participation in education, vocational, and job training, prison work skill development... all reduce recidivism, significantly."
